Nationwide Protests and Strikes Against ICE Gain Momentum

Nationwide Strikes, Protests Against ICE This Weekend As the nation grapples with the increasingly aggressive tactics of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a wave of protests and strikes is sweeping across the country, with students, community leaders, and state officials joining forces to demand an end to the agency's brutal crackdown on immigrant communities.

Students Take the Lead in Organizing Protests
At the forefront of this movement are students from various universities, including the University of Minnesota, where the Somali Student Association and Black Student Union have been instrumental in organizing demonstrations across the state. Dahir Munye, president of the Somali Student Association, declared that 'the only way to truly fight back is to extend and expand the shutdown movement' after a news conference at Minneapolis City Hall on Wednesday.

Protests Spread Nationwide, with Teachers and Community Leaders Joining In
From coast to coast, people are making their voices heard that ICE needs to get out of our cities. In Arizona, several bookstores and cafes have announced closures in solidarity with the economic blackout, while students at high schools across the state have staged walkouts throughout the week. In Colorado, a quarter of Border Valley School District teachers have called out in solidarity with the strike.

State Prosecutors Take a Stand Against ICE
A coalition of state prosecutors announced this week that they would be holding ICE agents accountable for violations of state laws and constitutional rights. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner declared, 'If we have to hunt you down the way they hunted down Nazis for decades, we will find your identities. We will find you. We will achieve justice.'

New York Governor Introduces Legislation to Restrict ICE Cooperation
On Friday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul introduced legislation that would forbid state law enforcement from cooperating with ICE. 'This is about a rogue federal agency that's been unleashed on American streets for the sole purpose of creating chaos, carnage and fear,' she said during a news conference.

As the protests and strikes continue to gain momentum, it's clear that the power of collective action can bring about significant change. With more people taking to the streets and state officials joining the fight against ICE, there is hope for a brighter future where immigrant communities are protected from the agency's brutal tactics.
