A Family's Legacy of Hunting in the Ozarks

On the hunt for bear in the OzarksIn a region steeped in tradition and rich with natural beauty, one family's love for hunting has been passed down through generations. Meet the Newcombs, a proud family from the Ozarks who have made it their mission to teach their children the value of responsible hunting.

A Timeless Family Photo
At first glance, a treasured family photograph appears to be a heartwarming moment between a young father and his infant son. However, upon closer inspection, it reveals a more complex narrative. The image shows Hunter Clay Newcomb introducing his newborn son, Bear, to the thrill of hunting. Clay proudly holds up a deer he had shot with a traditional bow, while Bear looks on in wonder.

A Legacy of Hunting
Clay Newcomb is not only a devoted father but also a lifelong hunter and historian of bear hunting in North America. He believes that the tangible nature of hunting teaches children valuable life skills, such as responsibility and respect for the land. 'The tangible nature of hunting and the responsibility that comes from hunting, to be able to use a firearm, to go into the wild, the land ethic that has to be understood to be a hunter, is a really unique way to raise up a child,' Clay explains.

A Family's Commitment to Conservation
The Newcombs' love for hunting extends beyond just recreational activities. They are deeply committed to conservation efforts in the Ozarks and believe that responsible hunting plays a crucial role in maintaining the region's delicate ecosystem. Clay notes, 'We're not just hunters; we're stewards of the land.'

The Newcombs' story serves as a testament to the enduring power of tradition and the importance of passing down values from one generation to the next. As the family continues to hunt and explore the Ozarks, they remain dedicated to preserving the region's natural beauty and promoting responsible hunting practices.
