As I reflect on the news from the past week, one painful reality stands out: the troubling number of violent acts committed by young black and brown men and women against one another. It’s heartbreaking, and more than that—it’s a crisis that demands our collective attention and action.
I’ve tried to understand the reasons behind these acts. Too often, they make no logical or moral sense. What’s even more painful is the ripple effect: families devastated, communities fractured, and our entire culture misrepresented by harmful stereotypes that fuel systemic racism and social mistrust.
Let’s be clear—this is not just a youth issue, a gang issue, or a poverty issue. This is a community issue. And we can no longer afford to talk about it as if it’s someone else’s responsibility to fix. If we truly care about our people, our children, and our future, we must rise to the occasion.
I’ll be honest: I don’t have a clear answer. I’m reaching out to you—each of you in our community—for insight, strategies, healing methods, and solutions. How do we address this violence? How do we shift the mindset? How do we break this cycle?
Let’s stop just shaking our heads. Let’s join the conversation and start building solutions—together.
